Review Godus

Brandon Girod
Gorgeous art design, very unique premise, deviates from standard game mechanics
Touch controls are inaccurate
Godus for Android is an interesting game. It’s one that definitely sets itself apart from many other mobile games because, while it is a city-builder, it’s free from the same boring game mechanics of its peers. You are God. You save your first settler from drowning in the ocean by sculpting the land. Now it’s your job to subtly guide them from primitive people to space explorers, while balancing a mix of faith and practicality.
One of my favorite things about this game is that the mechanics change over time as you go through the game. In the beginning you’ll be sculpting land so that you can expand your civilization. As you progress the game your resources change, and so do the goals you need to meet in order to progress to the next stage in the game.
The art style is really gorgeous too. It has a very muted, watercolor look to it, and I absolutely love it. As you progress through the ages, the buildings begin to change for, and it’s a really awesome idea to be able to look back on how your civilization grew throughout the years.
One of my complaints about the game is the controls. Let’s be honest, touch screens are horrible controllers for video games. When you’re sculpting the ground so that your followers can expand, there are plenty of times you’ll make a mistake. There is no real differentiation in gesture between building a layer or removing it, and sculpting eventually costs resource, which isn’t free. So, it’s frustrating when the game’s controls leave you making mistakes because of this.
The idea behind Godus is really awesome, and so is the art design. The execution is lacking just a bit, though. The controls are frustrating because making a mistake costs you resources, and the first few hours of the game is nothing but sculpting.

I installed this game to my Acer Iconia A500 3 times and each time it does not work.  It shows a white screen for about 8 seconds then returns to tablet desktop?  Need help to make it work on A500.
