Review djay 2

Tariq Abdulla
Responsive controls, cool features, interesting functionality, elaborated interface
Only supports two types of audio file
djay 2 for Android is a supercool DJing app that lets you spin two tunes together on digital decks. The controls are responsive and you can scratch your turntables against the needle, or move the needle to go back and forth in the track.
You can place colored markers on the record to find a particular spot again, and these will also appear on the waveform. The markers stay there for the next time you play the track. There are sliders to adjust the speed of each track, and to fade the volume between them.
There are nifty controls where you can flip over either turntable to add some echo effects to the music. Or quickly access a set of buttons to tap out some drum sounds. There's even a Snoop Dogg sampler pack.
At the moment, you can't use it to stream your music from Play Music, but you can stream music from Spotify, if you have a premium Spotify account. That's pretty neat, because you can create playlists in Spotify, and even invite your friends to contribute tracks. You could get a 30 Day free trail of Spotify Premium if you just want to try it out for one party. This will also allow you to store your playlist offline.
The buttons labelled "sync" will sync either track with the other playing one, or by tapping on "BPM" you can tap out a rhythm with your finger. You can also record your session (this only works with music files stored on your device). "Automix" will load up tracks automatically and transition between them. So you could leave this running during a party, and every so often someone could go and play with the scratchy effects and pretend to be a DJ, or load up their favourite dance anthem.
You can even control djay 2 with professional DJ equipment, which goes to show how much thought has gone into it. The current price of $2.99 probably won't last forever, so grab yourself a bargain and practice your mad DJ skills for the coming holiday season.
