Exhilarating ARPG combat
Limiting energy system
Darkness Reborn for Android is a dark, gritty action RPG that is full of loot, monsters, and the typical well endowed women that seem to plague the fantasy genre. The game starts off by showing you a bit of what a higher leveled character plays like. In reality, you’re playing as the guy you’ll be fighting down the road. A darkness has taken over the land, and it’s your job to kick its butt.
On one hand, the game is set up like many other RPG games currently on the Play Store. You’ve got a certain amount of energy to use, which means that you’re limited to how long you can actually play the game. I can’t stand this in games, personally. You also have different levels on a map that give you rewards for completing them. Where this game sets itself apart is in the combat. In each level you’re actually controlling your character and fighting mobs in real time using auto attacks and special abilities.
While I hate that it artificially lengthens the game, the gameplay itself is really, really fun. You gain loot that you can equip and enhance, and your character levels up things as well. The hub isn’t a static screen as it usually is either. Instead it’s like you’re walking around in a town in an MMO. You can see other players running around, and all of the shops and event masters are real NPCs you go up and talk to.
The game performed really well, but I noticed my phone getting pretty hot after about 15 minutes of play. I guess on that end it’s actually a good thing the game caps my play time.
Darkness Reborn offers a lot of great things to, what I consider a now, stale formula. Your character is easy to control, and I didn’t have any lag, even during the flashier moves. The difficulty ramps up at a steady space, and there are even a few classes you can choose from that have different abilities and play styles. This is a game that will definitely be staying on my phone for a while.
