Review aCalendar - Android Calendar
A good calendar app with a dated design
Author: Brandon Girod

Defaults to a unique weekly layout
The app's design could use a bit of a makeover
aCalendar for Android is a pretty satisfying calendar app if you’re tired of seeing the same layouts day in and day out. It knows what you think is important and gets right down to presenting it to you in a format that is easy to consume.
When you open the app won’t be greeted with the familiar daily view of your calendar. Instead, the app breaks the view up into 8 tiles. There is a tile for every day of the week, and the last tile is, thankfully, dedicated to a view of the month. I really enjoy this because I’m not someone who is so busy that my entire day is filled to the brim with appointments. Most of the time, I want to be able to quickly view what day of the week a certain day is, or what my overall availability is that day.
The app also has a pretty extensive list of options you can go through, so if you’re unlike me, you can actually have the start view change to daily or monthly. It also supports synchronization between several different calendars and birthdays. I had 8 synced up while I tested the app and everything worked fine.
There are only two widgets: a smaller one that shows the date and a 4x4 widget that displays the full calendar month. You can customize the bigger widget to an extent, but the options are pretty limited.
Overall I found aCalendar to be a very good calendar app. One that could easily replace whatever you’re currently using. My biggest gripe is that while I love the format, the app’s design itself is sub par.
