Review Mobile Security & Antivirus

Brandon Girod
Offers real-time antivirus protection and anti-theft protection for free
Outdated app design
ESET’s Mobile Security & Antivirus for Android is a newer software protection app. Right off the bat this app offers active virus protection against malware in real time and has a host of anti-theft features all for free.
The first thing I noticed about this app was just how antiquated the app’s design felt. Android 5.0 has already been released, and there are a ton of apps that have updated their apps design to meet Google’s new material design guidelines. Anyway, there are six options to choose from on the main screen, but three of them are locked away behind a paywall.
What you can use is the antivirus and anti-theft options. Antivirus has several options inside you can choose from. You can decide how deep you want the app to scrub, you can look at the scan log, update the threat database, check out your quarantine list, and even schedule automatic scans if you upgrade to premium. One of the best features available is the real-time protection it offers.
Anti-theft is the other big selling feature and gives you a lot of options for free, but you can unlock even more with their subscription model. The anti-theft options lets you communicate with your stolen or lost phone through text messages and a password. So, unfortunately, it appears that you have to actually have the phone on to communicate with it, which is definitely limited compared to other.
Mobile Security & Antivirus is a really great free software that offers even more functionality when you upgrade to premium. Even in the free mode you get a lot of good features that you normally have to pay for. The design might be outdated, but the functionality is all there.
