Quality 3D graphics, quality game play
Inconvenient to play on a small screen, animation is a bit laggy
NFL Pro 2013 for Android is a highly developed game of American football. The play is engaging and comprehensive with lots of action.
NFL Pro 2013 goes for realism in play and presentation. The end result is highly detailed and nuanced. This is a perfect app for football fans of all ages. Just pick your favorite team, recruit players, upgrade abilities and play against online opponents. All the NFL teams are represented with accuracy. Flip a coin, call heads or tails and let the game begin.
The graphics are excellent with nice detail and a satisfying look overall. The animation is great for the most part but a little jittery at times. Renders could have been better but I really loved the way players reacted to bad plays and scored touchdowns with the usual posturing and showmanship. The games are action packed and you can choose from an array of plays before each down. Passing is fun, especially going long. Running the ball is equally satisfying and the physics behind the hits are solid; I could feel my molars grinding with each tackle.
The sounds are spot on; good crowd cheers and the sports announcers feel realistic and spontaneous. I found the field goals to be a little cumbersome and clumsy, but I may just need more time with it.
Naturally there's plenty of upgrades to spend money on. A lot of the extra plays and game options will cost you, as will starting new games and upgrading equipment. You could easily blow a good chunk of cash on this one, but at least the game is highly developed, making the prospect of hefty investments seem worthwhile.
NFL Pro 2013 has a lot going for it. I see room for improvement in the animation and graphics department, but the play is solid. Yup, it kills the battery pretty quick, but that's to be expected that given the high detail and elaborated play.
