Decent level of difficulty, decent atmosphere, no in-app purchases
Too short levels
Mysterious Castle – 3D Puzzle for Android brings a puzzle driven adventure based on room escape games that is guaranteed to be both amusing and a true brain teaser.
Although the game advertises itself as being played in a 3D environment, it turns out to be based around the simple 2D graphics that have defined most of the genre. The user is presented with well detailed scenes that must be solved using well hidden puzzles within the environment. In order to solve these puzzles the user must move around using simple left and right buttons. These will switch the view to more detailed sub-scenes that allow for a more detailed view. Each smaller puzzle solved will somehow fit in to the larger whole and allow the player to move forward. Each completed room will open up the next one, containing even more complex puzzles than its predecessor.
While the player is initially presented with a compelling, although somewhat overly simplified story, it becomes painfully obvious that it was a onetime deal. No explanation is given for any of the character’s motivations; no tiny bits of information are crammed in with the puzzles. The player is left to imagine his own reasons and plots as his brain is put to the test by each level.
Overall Mysterious Castle – 3D Puzzle is a decent puzzle game. It could use some more features to stay engaging through each level, yet even in its current state proves to be a great brain teaser for those looking for a decent challenge.
