Good game pace, difficult mechanics
Suffers from performance issues
Barty Run for Android is a crazy side scrolling endless runner. The game is based on a short film, and you play as Barty... the pig. Yes, Barty, the pig, who is on the run for God knows what. You’ll be jumping over weird obstacles, eating bananas (do pigs even eat bananas?), and basically trying to stay alive as long as possible.
This is one of the most stressful games I’ve played on a mobile phone. It starts off easy enough by introducing you to the gameplay mechanics. First it shows you the stamina bar that drains slowly over time. Then it teaches you to throw bananas at Barty so that he can eat them and restore stamina. The list goes on to show you how to deal with different enemies and destroy obstacles that get in his way.
Part of what makes this game so difficult is that it suddenly starts throwing a never ending amount of obstacles to swipe away in several ways while you’re trying to collect coins to purchase upgrades. Now, that sounds pretty tough as it is, but it gets even more difficult when you take your own hands into account. Swiping like crazy means your hands are always in the way and prevent you from seeing what’s up ahead.
I’ll admit, when I first opened Bartly Run I didn’t think I was going to like the game, but it took me by surprise. The gameplay was fun, and when I thought it was done introducing new mechanics it would throw another one at me. I did run into some stability issues when I installed it on my phone, and even on my tablet it ran with a few hiccups, but it was playable overall.
