Great art style and presentation, fun and solid gameplay, unique and original concept
In-game purchases require a lot of grinding
The Boxtrolls: Slide’N’Sneak for Android is an incredibly unique and interesting mobile game made by the same guys that brought you Pet Peaves Monsters. It’s a game about rescue. You choose a boxtroll at the beginning of the game, and launch into an adventure that has you sliding and sneaking your way past enemies to save fellow boxtrolls.
The first thing I noticed about the game was its unique art style. It was almost Tim Burton-esque, but with its own style and flavor. It’s shot from a profile perspective, and has you jumping through pipes in factories to save your friends. As you play through the game you’ll be graded on how many cogs you collect during each level and how sneaky you were.
Being sneaky mainly consists of taking out enemies as you come up to them, and making sure you don’t hit loud objects as your jumping and sliding.
The pace of the game changes as you play. You might start the game off with a series of jumps but end it by sliding swiftly down a pipe. The constant shift in pacing in each level keeps the game interesting.
That said, the game is a free to play, so that means most of the items in the shop you’ll need to purchase are really expensive and cause you to replay levels several times in order to unlock them all.
If you’ve been looking for a new game to play until you fall asleep in bed or accompany you on your morning commute then The Boxtrolls: Slide’N’Sneak is definitely it. The gameplay and art styles are totally unique and it’s a ton of fun to play.
