Smart cutout tool
Lackluster photo filters, extremely limited "free" features
StickIt! for Android is a smart tool to bring some added spice to your Snapchat pics. Staying true to its name, it does basically exactly what you would think it does, and throws in a few filters for good measure.
To be honest, I found the filters to be pretty much useless. They were thrown in there seemingly as an after thought, and most of them completely annihilate the contrast in the picture. Do yourself a favor - apply a filter from another app before making the sticker.
Before jumping straight into the app, it's recommended that you watch the quick video tutorial on the home page. Creating a sticker isn't as intuitive a process as it might seem. The gist is that you draw a white line inside the object you want to make the sticker out of, which will highlight it red, and then draw black lines through unwanted areas of the photo that were caught in the smart cutout tool.
The cutout tool was a lot smarter in the tutorial, but surprisingly enough, once you tell it exactly what you want to cut out, it does a pretty good job. And no, you don't have to do any tracing, the tool is smart enough to do that itself.
You can take pictures straight from the app itself, using one of your phone's camera apps. And there aren't too many options in the app itself, which seems like a blessing in disguise.
StickIt! does exactly what it sets out to do, and does a decent job. It was confusing to create the first picture, but once I learned the nuances it became much easier to manage. The smart cutout tools are great at cropping out the sticker, but the filters that come baked into the app leave a lot to be desired. What ultimately brings the app down is that all of the most useful features are locked behind in-app purchases, which is never a good selling point for a "free" app.
