Feels a little unfair, sounds sometimes seem "off"
Entwined Challenge for Android from Sony is a fun little game with musical dynamics and quick-paced gameplay. In the game you control two colorful birds that you make hit incoming billboard type objects (they look like see through paddle shaped colors). You fly through a tube that feels both mystical and spacey, in that colorful effects circulate around your birds and sometimes rays of colored light explode everywhere when you do particularly well. When you do bad, it’s actually kind of an anticlimactic letdown. You might think to yourself “Did I die? Whats Happening? Oh dangit..Now I have to start over!”.
The controls in the game are important since the game is so simple, and for the most part they work well, if not particularly easy on the later parts of the levels. When you start the levels, (there are 4 different levels that last as long as you can last) you start off by hitting the billboards and then eventually you have to hit billboards in succession. When the level starts moving increasingly fast you have to hit the billboards and turn at an angle as well. Sometimes I wish this turning mechanic was incorporated longer but slower so that the difficult part was more about how long you could be accurate but not how fast. That's just me though.
I like how Entwined incorporates color and music into one experience and even when you hit the billboards in the game, there are little chimes that go off. The result in terms of gameplay is a very fun and unique experience that feels like a rhythm game. In each level this chime sound changes, from the first level to a ding, and on the second level is a woody hollow sound. Unfortunately, while the game feels like a rhythm game it doesn’t exactly perform as such. Each level has different sounds but I never really felt like the sounds themselves and the music really went together in a sort of melodic harmony. They both sounded separate which disappointed me as I flew throughout the interactive levels.
Entwined is a unique game that is definitely fun and worth a play through. The graphics are pretty and colorful, but something about them feels a little disappointing. While the birds are colorful, they don’t contain much detail at all. Try the game out if you are looking for a different sort of game that can be both addicting and challenging at the same time.
