Great use of Star Wars license, funny story
Same mundane base building
Star Wars: Commander for Android is a yet another reskinned version of Clash of Clans. Seriously, how many of these are developers going to make?! I’m surprised this game isn’t called Clash of the Jedis - Touch Arcade thinks it should of been called Clash of Hans. The game has great style and graphics and relies heavily on it’s Star Wars license. The voice acting sounds good, the character art is good, and the gameplay looks good as well. I couldn’t help but take a small amount of enjoyment to spawn ATT walkers to smash down Tusken raiders.
I also really liked having a Han Solo (hero character) to control in the battle. It was a little strange spawning my characters as there was a shield that blocked the base I was trying to invade. I had to get Han Solo to go in and deactivate the shields and then I could attack. It was actually a pretty cool mission and made the mission feel more like a game with variety than simply an auto-attack fest where you just spawn units and tap things and have them die.
The rest of the game is as you would expect it. You spend your time gathering resources from your buildings, waiting for things to upgrade, and going on missions to attack things. The game does have some elements of a story, like in the beginning Jabba is on your back and you have to figure things out. Like I said before, the graphics and everything feels polished and the best parts of the game are that it’s simply just Star Wars. There’s Star Wars music, Star Wars laser sounds, and JABBA THE HUTT!
If you like Clash of Clans, and if you like Star Wars, this could be your dream come true. However, if you have never been a fan of the genre, this game is simply hiding behind it’s license and polished style. If I were to actually play a game like this at length, it probably would be this one because I love Star Wars.
