Nice soundtrack, multiple game modes
The tutorial does not explain the mechanics, mediocre graphics
Clash of Lords 2 for Android is a rather generic touchscreen strategy game, designed to be more casual and a lot simpler than its PC and console counterparts.
The game is mostly divided into two phases. One takes place in your fortress, where you build up your offensive forces and defensive structures. Of course, players should never neglect enhancing his economy as his hall upgrades. On the other hand, the more action packed battle phase sees players deploying their forces against pre-built or player built strongholds. Each hero commands his own squad of units and can be upgraded to become a truly devastating force. Hero powers provide a unique advantage when used correctly so it becomes imperative that each army sent onto the field possess the proper tools to overcome their opponents.
The 2D graphics that the game is built around will not amaze and astound anyone, however a decent amount of detail has been added when creating the environment, the buildings and the units. It is a shame that the same cannot be said about the animations. Some heroes moved with a decent amount of fluidity, while others felt stiff and had an obvious loop in their animation. Around the village things look mostly the same, with villagers moving rather oddly about the grid. At long distance all these animation flaws are not much of an issue; however once you zoom in to get immersed in the battle it becomes more apparent.
Overall Clash of Lords 2 is a decent smart device strategy game; however it fails to bring any innovations over its competitors.
