Dimmer for Android is another entry into the app market that aims to make your screen less bright at night. Most of these apps get the job done in that they make your screen more readable by being less bright. What makes this app different? This app performs well and has additional features which are very solid. With this app you can not only dim your screen but you can also put a screen filter that makes it easier for you to read your phone at night.
Dimmer is very easy to start up. You just tap the app and it immediately dims your phone’s screen. Nothing is even required to open. From there, you can adjust the dimness from your notification panel through up, down, pause, or cancel. I haven’t seen this before in a app, so this is very useful to be able to adjust it so easily and quickly.
When you tap on Dimmer through your notification panel, you can explore its options. There is a useful auto mode, which automatically senses the light in your environment and adjusts it accordingly. I don’t find this part of the app particularly useful because I would never want the app as dark as it as night during the day. Manual works better for me, but its a cool feature to have included for automation.
A more useful feature is the time mode settings where you can set the app to dim the screen at a certain time. I set mine to turn on at 11 pm and to turn off at 9 am. You can also adjust the button arrangement on your notification panel, and the range of adjustment. In terms of an app’s settings, Dimmer feels very customizable to suit your needs.
My favorite included feature in the app is the color filter. Up until now, I’ve had to have two apps - one to dim my screen, and one to put a filter on it. Now, with Dimmer, I can pick any kind of color filter I want. The default color is a nice hue that I will stick with.
Dimmer is a simple app with a lot of settings but its extremely useful and easy to use. Check it out if you hate how bright your phone is at night.
