Talisman is a game that attempts to bring true board game mechanics and gameplay to smart devices in the form of a huge role playing game that has a great deal of depth crammed into it.
There are so many features and mechanics that it takes a large amount of time to experience everything that the game has to offer. Players pick their classes and start out on a board that represents a fantasy world, filled with terrain, cities, inhabitants and much more. Each player rolls a dice and is able to move the represented number in either direction, while getting a glimpse of what awaits, allowing him to plan accordingly. As users explore the game’s world they obtain cards that symbolize weapons, armor, spells, monsters and even followers, each with its own benefit and mechanic. Each weapon and armor has its own unique behavior, while spells perform a vast array of effects, yet give other players a small window to cast their own spells or counters. Battles are resolved by cumulating stats, multipliers such as spell effects weapons and armor and finally rolling a dice to add an extra.
The overall feel is mostly that of a race, a race for a mighty artifact that can then be used to achieve victory. Of course there is also the option of directly destroying your opponents.
Let’s face it, everyone loves board games, it’s just a matter of finding the one that’s your style. Talisman for Android is not going to be to everyone’s liking. It is slow paced with lots of depth and each game takes quite a while to complete. Personally I find the game to be great fun and an awesome port of a board game to the platform. A great addition to the game is the ability to replace any of the three AI players with a friend, adding a social element to the game as well.
