Quality soundtrack, addictive game play
Graphics could have been better
Not all games that look simple truly are. The Dodgers is a prime example of this. What seems to be a simple game of avoiding obstacles while spinning on an orbit around a ball quickly proves it has a lot more going on than meets the eye.
The objective is to guide birds as they fly on an orbit in such a way as to avoid falling meteors. Tapping on either side of the screen will prompt the birds to fly quickly either clockwise or counterclockwise. Sounds simple enough? Here’s where it gets complicated. Every now and then new birds will land on the orbit and they all move in perfect unison. The trick is to get all birds as grouped up as possible, thus reducing the need to keep an eye on each bird separately. In addition to keeping an eye on them after they land, it is also a good idea to keep an eye on where they land, as it is possible to create poker like combinations of birds in order to score extra points. Each new wave brings an increase in difficulty and what at first seemed simple will soon feel almost impossible. Because of the increasing level of difficulty it is imperative to use the incoming power-ups wisely.
Overall The Dodgers for Android is a fun, yet frustrating game that takes practice and concentration to master, not to mention quite a bit of luck. While the graphics are blocky and simple, the soundtrack is quite catchy and fitting. The only downside is that each song is on a loop and the only way to trigger another is by accessing the settings menu. The added leaderboard is a nice little bonus as it lets you show off how good your skills are.
