Review Welcome to the Dungeon

Fun graphics and music
Microtransactions and random slot machine style
Welcome to the Dungeon for Android is a unique take on the dungeon crawler genre. Instead of being a brave knight, you play the monsters via a card system that battle randomly generated heroes.
Welcome to the Dungeon’s style is one of its strongest strength. It has wonderful 16 bit old school graphics that are colorful, bright, and show variety. The monster designs that spring forth from cards look pretty fearsome and sometimes cute. Even the little pixelated art on the cards somehow make the cards feel more valuable than just little automated computers that fight your battles for you.
It’s up to you to arrange the monsters on the battlefield. If the hero you are fighting is a fire type, you need to arrange and place your water monster in front of it. This is done by picking one of your monster cards to place on the battlefield. The fights play out mostly how you would expect, and are kind of fun to watch.
Unfortunately, the challenge in the game isn’t really in the way battles play out. The game is more about collecting monster type cards and the luck associated with that. You can either pay coin or use premium currency via in game purchases. You use these cards to build your deck as you progress through harder and harder dungeons in which to guard.
Welcome to the Dungeon is a fun game with a creative premise. I couldn't help but feel the limits of the genre and model within the game as I played it. If you don’t mind grinding or random number generated based gameplay, this game could feed your inner dragon.
