Rock Hero is a game that promises to bring the Guitar Hero playstyle to smart devices. The premise is simple: notes come flying towards you based on the rhythm of the music and the player must tap the appropriate button as close to the sweet perfect spot in order to score points. It’s great that the game included different genres and also the option to play on your own music, however a more trained ear will notice that for some songs the notes are not exactly in tune with anything, although they do respect the rhythm.
The controls are extremely simple once you get the hang of it, though it does test and train your dexterity quite a bit and as you climb the difficulty levels it will become quite a hassle to even realize what is going on, this is partially due to the fact that notes are only visible when they get very close and also due to the fact that an untrained hand does not have enough precision to tap on a virtual button and will sometimes miss thus missing the note.
Overall Rock Hero for Android is an enjoyable game; however it does have its faults. The absence of a guitar controller makes playing the game a strain on your hand, as in order to see the notes and be able to play them you have to hold the device in a strange and uncomfortable way that at times felt like it was straining my hand. There is also the option of connecting your device to a TV or large screen (if you have capable hardware), but even this does not solve the problem much as without a physical controller you may end up tapping in the wrong place.
