Repeats notifications sometimes
EvolveSMS for Android is an app replacement for SMS text messages. It makes texting look more colorful, and includes a widget so that you can see your latest messages quickly without opening the app. It makes SMS messages look a bit like Gmail; with circular icons in different colors with the first letter of the person's name; or a picture of their face if you've added one to their contact details. It uses a blurred effect for headers in your conversation, which looks cool and modern. There's an easy access to sidebar that lets you jump between conversations.
EvolveSMS comes with some nice features. If you find that texts are driving you nuts, you can snooze the notifications for some period of time. With a small in-app purchase, you can unlock a handful of other features, like the ability to schedule messages for a later time, attach GIFs, and attach your location.
While EvolveSMS does look more appealing than my stock SMS app, I found it slightly got in the way of messaging, and I seemed to get notifications for messages I had read already in the app. That was annoying.
Text messages are kind of a last resort for me these days: I use them when people are travelling, to feel more confident the message will be received. Or for people who can't do other types of instant messaging. The Google-style interface only delivers real benefit when you have lots of pictures of people in your contacts, so it would be good if the app could scrape in pictures from other sources (like Google or Facebook). EvoloveSMS will appeal to you if you do a lot of texting, and are bored with your current SMS app.
