Review Notific

Jay Feldman
7.7Good
App specific control, minimalist design
Portrait only, small notification interface
Notific for Android offers tabbed notifications on your lockscreen so you can easily view what’s important at a glance, and launch basic tasks, all without unlocking your gizmo.
Notific has a nice layout. I loved the tabbed design; when notifications come in, they appear on your lockscreen, separated into basic categories with tabbed icons for easy access and nestled convenience. Think of it as tabbed browsing on the net. You can toggle through all the available notifications with ease and even launch basic actions direct from your lockscreen. It all feels familiar and intuitive. And if you care to get into the nitty gritty minutia of it all, you can even set which app’s notifications you’d like to ignore or prioritize.
The menus are laid out nicely and aren't overly cluttered with redundancy. It’s all very basic and clean, which is appropriate, since the showy part is the lockscreen itself. And therein lays the problem for me. This app is only intended for cell phones and has not been optimized for tablets; as of yet, it only displays in portrait mode. I think at one time that may have been fine, but the line between gizmos has gotten so fuzzy, that I think it’s become antiquated to not offer landscape views on cell phones.
The app functions fairly quickly, but I did run into some hangs here and there. Also, the fonts on the notification screens are needlessly small. They’re not much bigger than the text that appears in the status bar, which makes no sense when there’s plenty screen space to do more with the design and presentation.
Notific is a decent lockscreen enhancement. But there’s so many of them available, that it all just comes down to aesthetics and personal preference. For me, I like the design but not the needlessly small presentation and forced portrait mode. However, this might be perfect for others.
