Neat graphics, exciting game play
Slow load times, animation is a bit laggy
Guardians of the Galaxy: TUW for Android brings this popular Marvel comic book series to life in this highly refined alien quest. Fight opponents with up to 4 warriors at one time and control each of them individually.
Guardians of the Galaxy: TUW is an oddity among typical quest style games, in that, this one actually makes you part of the action, rather than just a passive witness to the combat as it unfolds. The cast of characters are a strange, motley crew. All are visually interesting, and each comes with their own unique set abilities. As the game progresses, more and more odd looking aliens join your battalion, and you can recruit and play with up to four of them simultaneously.
The combat is actually pretty fun and engaging. Your team has beamed down to an enemy locale and is soon detected. Enemies appear from all directions and instantly attack. To defend yourselves, just touch any of your team members, drag toward the enemy you want to attack, then release. Characters will continue fighting until one dies or you reassign a new enemy to battle. As the game advances, things get pretty hairy with all the smack downs happening onscreen. It can be a little hard to keep track of, but just adds to the excitement. You can even gang up on enemies by assigning multiple team members to beat the crap outta them. Fun!
The graphics are excellent but a tad glitchy. The biggest annoyance is the long load times between screens and on app restart; nothing terrible, but tedious all the same. The sounds are fun and entertaining. I loved the mix of characters and their special abilities. The array of possibilities and levels to conquer here should keep things interesting for quite awhile.
Guardians of the Galaxy: TUW delivers as well as anything offered from Marvel. It’s highly polished and developed, with no in app purchases required beyond the initial price. Can’t wait to see the movie!
