Decent graphics, responsive controls
Bores you really quickly
Retro Runners - Endless Run for Android is a pixilated retro throwback with the look and feel of old Atari.
Retro Runners - Endless Run pays homage to simpler gaming days. The blocky graphics will look familiar to Minecraft fans, though it’s really not from that world. Basically, you are a blocky, stickish looking track athlete and it’s a nice day to jump some hurdles and run around the track. Everyone in stickville (yes, I just made that up) has turned out to watch the race, and the track is very colorful and pleasing to the eye, in a blocky pixilated sorta way. Jump hurdles, grab water from fans trackside, and avoid people with cameras that flash in your eyes and make you temporarily blind. Oh, and be sure to collect coins and don’t run into any of your fellow runners. That’s basically the game in a nutshell; it’s not called “Endless Runner” for nothing.
The controls work really well; swipe the left side of the screen to make your runner change lanes, tap the right side to make him jump. There’s a few power ups, like coin doublers, and the track turns into a bit of a congested obstacle course before long. The game renders well but does have some lag issues.
Retro Runners - Endless Run is a decent timekiller but will bore you really quickly. I think kids will enjoy it most as it’s visually appealing and simple to play.
