Monty Python’s The Ministry of Silly Walks for Android wins the award for silliest app ever. It made me smile, then laugh, then frown and go nuts trying to play it again and again and beat my high score! Arrrg!!
The Ministry of Silly Walks charmed me on name alone. Yup, this is one of the goofier apps you’ll find out there. And as the name suggests, it’s all about the silly walk. The game starts out with a guy in an office, sitting behind a desk. He lets a fart rip, and then decides to clear the room and go for a silly walk. The objective is simple: silly walk as far as you can. Naturally, it’s not that easy. There are obstacles to jump over and duck under. If an obstacle is particularly large, just jump over it and open your umbrella to float past it like Mary Poppins; with dignity and grace. *A-hem* good day to you, sir.
The walks really are silly, and the stuff shirt doing the walking switches his gait between the styles when the urge hits. I couldn't help but laugh at how this guy moves. The app does a brilliant job of capturing British highbrow and merging it with outright silliness in movement. The animation is perfect; no glitches and plenty of laughs. And the sounds are just too funny. This game is surprisingly entertaining given what little it’s actually about.
There are no pesky donation requests, and the few upgrades offered can be earned just by playing well – Alleluia!!! I bought the American flag suit, and for some stupid reason, it was very satisfying to do my silly walk with it on; so to speak. Extra power-ups are also available and dolled out during normal play. Everything can be purchased with money earned while playing; no real cash required, other than to buy the app.
The Ministry of Silly Walks is deceptively entertaining. I love the arcade style of play; if you lose, the whole game starts over from the top, and you gotta silly walk it all over again to beat your best score. I don’t know how long this will remain funny before it crosses over to just being boring, but for now, I’m getting some good laughs out of this one. Too funny.
