Funny sounds, the game is addictive, simple controls, no ads
Uppercup Football for Android is a cheeky football game with a lot of surprises. In each level, you’ll face off against a different, funny-looking team.
For example, in the European cup, you’ll face Vikings, the Queen’s Guard, a team with ice-cream cone hats, and a team of unicorns. In the US Cup, it’s cowboy hats, statue of liberty hats and American football helmets. Sometimes there are goalkeepers, sometimes there aren’t, and sometimes the opponent’s goalie has a paper bag over his head. Sometimes the pitch is soaked, or there’s a gale force wind. Sometimes the field is covered in giant rocks or pumpkins, or land mines, or pinball-style bumpers that make the ball bounce around. Half the time you won’t even be playing with a football, it will be a rugby ball or a bowling ball!
The controls in Uppercup Football are straightforward. When you have the ball, an arrow will circle around your player, to choose direction, and you hold down to choose the strength of the kick. When you don’t have the ball, you can do the same thing with one of your players, to choose how hard and in which direction you will tackle. But watch out, tackle them too hard and you could get a card. The penalty for a red card is the player wearing a paper bag over his head; which seriously impairs his performance on the field.
The menu music is some kind of samba/carnival music, which fits well. There’s no in-game music, which is a good thing. The sound effects are quite fun, particularly the players kicking each other as it all gets a bit messy. The minefields are fun, as a whole series of mines explode at the same time, as all the players run after the ball. Uppercup Football for Android is free for the first 20 levels. There are sure to be a lot more surprises waiting in the other 80 levels.
