Review UC Browser
Fast loads and browsing but very small fonts
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 22 Jun 2017, tested on ASUS Nexus 7 (2013)
Fast, lots of settings, minimalist design
Non-intuitive interface, low-quality design
UC Browser for Android is fast loading and snappy, with an expanded feature set, but the interface still needs some work.
UC Browser has a lot going for it, and just as much working against it. The app actually loads web pages quite well, with very few hangs or buffering issues. Images popped up right away, even on graphic intensive sites. I also loved all the quick launch links on the home screen and the array of customization choices. The app features day and night modes, with an easy to access toggle for instant switching. There is also an array of colorful themes to choose from, with World Cup editions dominating the current selections.
The interface is decent and I like the layout. My biggest issue with this browser are the use minuscule fonts on virtually every screen and menu. This browser is a nightmare for anyone who wears glasses; personally, I wouldn't even attempt to use this one on a screen smaller than 7 inches. And from what I could tell, there was no easy way to increase the text size across the entire interface.
There are plenty of add-ons and this entire app seems to be highly developed and fleshed out. Overall, the interface looks very old and dated. I appreciate the minimalist approach, but it still needs to feel contemporary and be user friendly.
UC Browser is actually one of the better browsers I’ve tried, but the poor presentation and minuscule fonts assure this will not be among my favorite day to day browsers. However, future updates should really help this one immensely.
