Interesting functionality, stylish design
Inconvenient interface, lags a bit
Pixlr-o-matic for Android is a simple photo editing and manipulation app with an innovative interface.
Pixlr-o-matic aims to be a virtual darkroom for your Android. The app is very easy to use, and could be enjoyed by kids and adults. Just open a picture from your gallery or take a new one by launching your camera right from this app. Once you have a picture selected, there are a host of tweaks and adjustments that can be made on the fly. Add frames, artistic color effects and interesting filters to customize the pics to your liking.
The app features a darkroom layout with an old fashioned photography feel, so all your pictures are presented as if they are being processed on a home darkroom. All the filter effects and custom selections are presented as if they are on a 35mm roll of film. It’s all very pleasing and satisfying to the eye and draws you into the app. Tweaked pictures can be saved and share to your favorite social networking websites. The app functions fairly well, but did hang from time to time.
The hiccup with this app is the small presentation. Clearly this has not been optimized for use on tablets; however, I question how well it will display on phones too. All of the icons and fonts are very small, even when set to Large in the app's settings. The presentation is so cramped and tiny, that it really does detract from all the good qualities this app possesses.
Pixlr-o-matic has a lot of potential and the darkroom style presentation is quite charming. However, I think this needs to be revamped so it displays better and doesn’t feel so small and cramped.
