Review ColorDict

Jay Feldman
Functions quickly, minimalist design
No intuitive spelling
ColorDict for Android is a no-frills, color coded dictionary for your gizmo. It has a very small footprint and functions well.
ColorDict is a very straightforward and easy to use dictionary app. Just type a word you're looking for into the search bar on the left of the screen and a list of results will appear on the right. Results are color coded into basic categories for easy identification and reference. Blue is the thesaurus, red is Wordnet definitions and green is Wikipedia. When available, the results also include hyperlinks to synonyms; just tap to bring up results for the corresponding words.
The search results display quickly and there's a History tab along the top menu so you can easily toggle between any words previously searched. I found the color coding of the results to actually be helpful in discerning the type of information I was looking for. The text was a good size and easy to read, plus the settings interface allows the adjustment of font size to your liking.
The one omission from this app, is there's no intuitive spelling while searching. So if you type in a word that you're not entirely sure how to spell, you'll get virtually no clues or suggestions from this app. It's not a huge deal, and yet, it does hamper the functionality.
ColorDict is a nice, no-frills dictionary. I question the need for it, frankly, given that most all word processors offer much of the same functionality, along with spell correct. But if you're looking for a standalone dictionary, this one is pretty good.
