Review Dungeon Gems
A new twist on match three and quest games

Neat graphics, interesting plot, interesting game play, simple controls
Uses a lot of system resources, kills your battery, in-app purchases
Dungeon Gems for Android is a twist on the standard match three style games and adds fantasy quest elements to it. Find the right combinations to unleash furry on your enemies in this turn by turn style play.
Dungeon Gems is a hybrid of sorts. The lower half of the screen has different gemstones with the four elements represented. On the top half of the screen, are different enemies to do battle with. Your heroes all represent the four elements, and each one has a little icon across the middle of the screen. Slide your finger across three gems below then watch the corresponding hero unleash fury upon the enemy above. You can match three like elements, or create combo attacks. This is neither a match three nor a quest game, but something in between.
The graphics are decent and look like a mythical medieval realm. The animation is also good; the characters look appropriately menacing and the attacks are colorful and fast. The sounds were entertaining and fit the action on screen.
The controls worked well; just swipes, slides and touches. I experienced no glitches but this definitely uses a lot of system resources and is heavy handed on the battery. My tablet was noticeably warm not long after the game started.
Dungeon Gems is an interesting hybrid of some classic and beloved games. The action is good and the cool graphics keep things interesting. I think kids would really love this one. All the mythical characters and colorful presentation will certainly perk their imagination. Yes, there are plenty of ways to spend money on upgrades, but I think the game can be enjoyed without them.
