Review Moon+ Reader

Jay Feldman
7.3Good
Simple interface, minimalist design, fully-featured free version
Ads impact performance, old fashioned design, is lagging
Moon+ Reader is a good all around e-reader app that supports most all major formats.
Moon+ Reader is a very nice e-reader app. The interface has a bookshelf design that conveniently displays all your book covers in one place. The bookshelf can be orientated to different views that suit your style and can be displayed in either portrait or landscape, while reading books can only be done in portrait mode. I think most people will be fine with this, since it most closely replicates the view one has when holding an actual book. However, as someone who buys a lot of Kindle books, I do miss the landscape option that I have come accustomed to; though apparently the paid version unlocks the landscape view.
The app functions fairly well. I did encounter several hangs when loading books and searching pages, but for the most part, all functioned nicely. The app features a fully functional free version with ads, and I suspect they might be part of the problem with the hangs I experienced. A nominal upgrade gets you some advanced features and removes the problematic ads.
I enjoyed the day and night modes to save your eyes and there were several themes available if you’re in the mood to customize the look. There’s even an auto scroll function, but that one feels a tad lazy to me; if you can’t handle scrolling or tapping the screen with your finger, then reading may not be your bag. I loved how you can tweak the invisible navigation pane available while reading; easily set where the different zones are on screen, like page up, page down and the options menu. Very convenient and handy.
Moon+ Reader is a perfectly usable e-reader app, but for me, I don’t see why anyone would use it over say, the Kindle app, which has a lot of powerful functionality. This one is quite good, but I prefer to just have all my reading materials in one place. There's a lot going on here, but much of it just feels cluttered and unnecessary.

Hello,
Unfortunately the app has been removed from the Windows store.

Great looking reader. All we need to know now is: how/where do we get books that are compatible with it......and where do we load them into the tablet?
