Decent animation, neat graphics, simple controls
Lags a bit, difficult to play without in-app purchases
A quick browse through the Google Play Store will give you an glimpse of the plethora of match-3 games available, and to add to that, Disney has also decided to bring forth one. Inspired by Disney’s live action film Maleficent, Maleficent Free Fall is a match-3 game that will take you on a spectacular journey with exciting challenges.
The objective of the game is simple - Light up all the boxes in the board by matching 3 or more gems of the same type and in many levels, break the chains by matching 3 gems and then match those free gems to light up, which simply means twice the normal difficulty. It disappoints me to say that the game is exactly the same as the other match-3 games out there, and not even a single concept or gameplay is introduced that sets it apart from the rest, but in its defence, Disney has managed to add in some extraordinary graphics given the size of the game.
The game also did not hold any special power-ups to get an advantage in the game needed other than the yellow and green magic, or any other game modes. The characters introduced in the game are also quite boring, doing nothing other than waving hands or smiling on the top of the board from time to time. Furthermore, the game gets harder after some levels to the point that it is impossible to complete without the help of in-app purchases, which is not at all acceptable.
In short, if you want to enjoy some levels of another match-3 game or are a fanatic of Disney, go ahead and download it. But for others, there are better ones out there. Disney games have released a seriously disappointing game that needs to get add various things, but until then, this one’s a complete no-no.
