Needs more features to separate it from other runners, monotonous game play
Space Heads is a neat little runner game in which you take on the role of a spaceshop pilot and maneuver through a series of tunnels, avoid obstacles and collect power-ups.
The gameplay is fairly simple and the best part is that you can control the entire game with just one finger. Swipe your finger in any of the four directions to move the ship the right way in order to avoid hazards and collect gems that act as currency for upgrades, not rocket science. The game is not exactly fast paced but does require some fast maneuvers once you’ve made some progress. The gems you earn are used to prolong the effects of power-ups and unlock new pilots and real money is used to purchase more revives or some extra. An interesting mechanic is that before launching the ship you can choose up to three enhancements to add to your ship by spending coins. These last for one round and can give you the extra edge needed to beat your record.
Not too much can be said about the graphics, they are decent cartoonish that are very likeable and create an atmosphere that is not too vibrant, not to gritty, just right for the theme of the game and immerse the player into the game without trying too hard. The environment is nicely designed so that hazards are easily identified allowing you to adjust your course as the need arises.
Overall the game is not exactly the most unique one out there but it can offer plenty of enjoyment. If you enjoy runner games, then give this one a chance and it might surprise you as it’s easy to learn, uncomplicated and offers nice customization options.
