Polished graphics, fans will love it
Dated, juvenile, glitchy
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded for Android is a goofy and silly game that you’ll either love or hate. It’s somewhat humorous, though mostly juvenile and tired.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded is based on an old video game from the 80s that has been contemporized for this new version. For the life of me, I have no clue what this game is about, nor did I find it captivating enough to care. You won’t get far in the unpaid version, so be prepared to buy the full version of you decide you like this enough to go on the adventure. Ultimately, it’s just a search and explore kind of game, with 12 year old jokes and snickers.
I thought the age verification part was funny and got several of the answers wrong; yet somehow, was still granted access to the game. Clearly this feature is just for fun and is intended to create intrigue and mischief. No kid who really wants to play this will let that silly test stop them. That might have worked in the 80s, but nowadays, there’s a little thing called Google.
The graphics are fun and irreverent, looked good, and were colorful; though I always have to laugh at the attempt to sell a game with cartoon boobs. How hard up are these gamers out there for a peek at some cleavage? I mean, I’m as big a nerd as any other goofball, but cartoon boobs? Really? It all just reminds me of a friend who once had a crush on Wilma Flintstone. Kind of sad and pathetic.
There are an array of controls, gestures and actions that are represented by icons. Click on the speech bubble to speak to other characters, the tongue and mouth to lick most anything, and so on and so forth. All the icons are stored in a pop out virtual drawer at the top of the screen which isn't always easy to access. Most of the actions are pointless and intended to just trigger reactions and responses that are meant to be funny. Sadly, most aren't. The 'humor' is all a little pedestrian and stilted. The game kinda reminds me of a bad Saturday Night Live skit – it goes on far too long, is nowhere near as funny as it espouses to be, and grates on the nerves quickly. This game asks for a huge investment of your time and attention, yet offers little to merit either.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded may be past due on its shelf life. It’s not as irreverent and fun as it thinks it is, and really, I found the whole thing to be quite boring. This modern update hasn't really been modernized, but rather, it’s just slightly retooled and somewhat reanimated. There's simply no innovation here, and it relies on humor that's barely amusing, let alone funny. At the end of the day, it’s still just the same old tired game. However, fans of the original series will likely be completely entertained. In the end, it all just seemed kind of pointless to me. This plays more like a socially introverted gamer’s dating fantasy than an actual game.
