Excellent graphics, excellent controls, exciting play, online play
High difficulty, makes my tablet run hot
CN Superstar Soccer for Android is nothing short of amazing. The action is intense, the graphics are colorful and I love all the silly characters. This app was brought to you by the Cartoon Network, and evokes all the fun and playfulness that name espouses.
CN Superstar Soccer is amazingly intricate yet simple. We all know how soccer is played, and this game offers intense match ups against an array of cartoon opponents. Select your team based on different strengths like speed, endurance, etc. The soccer stadium itself hovers in mid air like a cool spaceship. I have no clue where all the fans parked their cars and how they go to their seats, but it sure looks neat (hopefully no one needs to go to the bathroom!)
Just like the real soccer, the play is intense and fast. I was stunned at how realistic the action actually is. You can easily pass the ball and switch control to virtually any player on your team. At times, it gets a little frenzied to keep track of what’s happening and who’s got the ball, but it’s just all part of the fun.
CN Superstar Soccer has excellent thumb controls; just a virtual joystick on the left and 2 buttons on the right for Kick and Pass. When the opposing team has the ball, the buttons on the right switch to Tackle and Switch Player. The opposing team is definitely hungry for the win; they go straight for the jugular and play hard. Just use the thumb joystick to run around the field and stay in the thick of the action. If the opposing team gets ahead of you, just tap the Switch Player to toggle control to a different player on your team.
It took some practice, but I was actually able to score a few goals against the computer. The controls work quite well, but the action on the field moves fast, so it takes some practice to actually play well. Face off against the computer or use multi-player mode to challenge opponents live online. I played a few online games and all worked well.
Clearly the Cartoon Network takes their name seriously, because the graphics are very inviting and truly stunning at times. I love the opening sequence to each game and the aerial views of the stadium and field are beautifully done. This has the production values of an animated movie with excellent angles and visual presentation.
CN Superstar Soccer is hard to master. Don’t let it fool you into thinking this is just for kids. The play is a lot of fun and very sophisticated. I got nervous each time I started a new game with an online opponent; I didn't want to suck and I know people take their soccer very seriously. This one will continue to entertain long after the World Cup ends. Excellent for kids and adults.
