One-finger controls, sophisticated physics
Very common, bores you really quickly, graphics could have been better, animation is a bit laggy
Can Knockdown 2 for Android is a familiar retread come back to life once more. Throw balls, knock down cans, get bored fast. It all begs the question: WHY?
Can Knockdown 2 is a completely competent, if uninspired game. Basically, it’s like one of those old carnival games for your gizmo. You get a certain number of balls for each round, and the objective is to knock down the stack of cans. The arrangements get pretty interesting, and some of the cans blow up and stuff, but really, there’s not much intrigue or inspiration here.
The best part of this game seems to be more of an afterthought. Nestled deep within the alternate menus, I almost accidentally found an option to play the game in a shooting gallery style. A bunch of cans are running back and forth across the screen, and you fling balls at them and try to knock them down. Each can has a letter on it, and you have to hit them in the right sequence to spell the words “Can Knockdown.” Now THAT part of the game was actually fun and interesting. They should highlight that part of the app, and dump the more static play that’s mistakenly featured.
The controls work fine, but here's a secret: just slide your finger to the can you want to hit and let go; the ball will go exactly to where you pointed, basically killing any need for skill.
Can Knockdown 2 will hold little interest for a short while, but it’s hugely boring. The physics are good, which is key for a game like this. But at the end of the day, this game needs some twists and irreverence if it’s going to hold anyones attention for more than a nanosecond. At least that’s my take on it.
