Review CSI: Hidden Crimes
Pocket Detective Edition
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 02 May 2017, tested on Samsung Galaxy S III (LTE)
Immersive, excellent tv show companion
Needs more action, static graphics
CSI: Hidden Crimes for Android is like having a crime scene in your pocket. Gather evidence, test it in the lab, arrest bad guys and solve crimes. The only thing missing from this game is the badge and retirement pension.
If you're a fan of the show, then CSI: Hidden Crimes is a must have. The app follows the show pretty well, with graphics of Ted Danson and all the main characters. There's a lot of good instructions to get you started, so be prepared to do some reading. Actually, the whole game is heavily based on reading and imagination, which is good for a game like this. The crime scenes are almost like a hidden object game, with a list of items you need to find before the game can advance. Then you take the evidence to the lab and do cool stuff like test if for DNA, gather fingerprints and analyze all the data. Show characters pop in here and there, as if you're just another member of the CSI team. I tried to arrest the wrong guy, but the biometrics scanner caught that, and I had to reevaluate my data before I finally nabbed the right bad guy and arrested him.
CSI: Hidden Crimes is a very immersive game. It's not exactly high action, but then, not every game has to be about blowing stuff up. This game is a thinker, and one that needs to be played over time. They did an excellent job of thoroughly flushing out the plot and story line, which clearly is the benefit of having a TV show's back story to rely on. The graphics are cool, and the sounds come right from the show itself.
Resume
CSI: Hidden Crimes is a near perfect companion to the TV show that any fan would love. It really is just like having an interactive TV episode in your pocket, and feels like just another story in the series. I think they could have been a little more inventive with some of the graphics, but otherwise, it's spot on. Anyone can play this, not just fans of the show. But fans will certainly appreciate it more. Great game.Final ratings
