Quality animation, quality graphics, exciting game play
Needs to be elaborated, uses a lot of system resources
Dark Guardians for Android is a side scrolling runner style game. The visuals are very striking and the soundtrack adds to the fun. I’m not sure how long it will hold anyone’s interest, but it is interesting and fun to play.
Dark Guardians is very nicely put together. It has a striking look that's part anime and part graphic novel in look. The premise is simple: you’re a warrior on the run through a Sleepy Hollow kind of fantasy landscape. It’s part fairy-tale, part nightmare; dark, foreboding and intense. Weird animals and beastly creatures are running at you; wield your sword to destroy them before they destroy you. Oh, and keep on running for as long and far as you can; how hard could that be?
But wait, there's a twist: you have 4 swords, each good for killing particular creatures. The flaming sword kills flaming beasts, the regular sword works on run of the mill kind of beasts, and there’s a luminous sorta plasma energy sword, and some sort of earthen sword; each perfect for destroying their respective beasts; you know, just another hum-drum day in the woods.
The controls are very easy. You don’t really do anything but tap the screen to select a sword and tap again to slash anything that comes your way. The real trick is switching between each of the 4 swords on the fly. The beasts come in random order, one after another. Sometimes there's clusters of different beasts, so you gotta be quick in this relentless kill or be killed style of play. You don’t even have to run, the dude just runs all on his own, which adds to the intensity of play, since there’s really no opportunity to catch a breather, or adjust the pace. It’s just full throttle from the get go. You’d think this guy would get winded or something. But nope. He’s a killing machine. Just don’t ask where he tucks away all these extra swords while he’s on the run (just sayin’.)
Dark Guardians is fun, because it’s fast paced and intense. But I think the play could use more variety. The graphics are very good, the animation is smooth and it plays very well for what it is. It did make my battery run hot and siphoned my battery, but such is life for our running warrior with the quick change swords. Fun enough.
