Aspires to be a retro classic

Retro, fun action
Not enough variance, could get boring
Groundskeeper2 for android is retro fun. It has the look and feel of a classic arcade game, with the action to match. Games like this don’t waste their time with a heavy handed story that ultimately means nothing. It gets right down to it, blasting the crap out of everything in sight.
Groundskeeper2 almost reminds me of early Duke Nuke ‘Em, but not as refined. Nukem had levels and variance that this game should aspire to. As it is, you just run back and forth along the bottom of the screen blasting at all the aliens and ghouls that appear, all while dodging debris, collecting coins and dodging and weaving from attacks from the sky.
The controls don’t need to do much; just tap left or right to move, and hit another virtual button to fire. You never run out of ammo, so just keep running back and forth, blasting everything. And therein lays the problem. That’s really the whole game, just against different backdrops. It’s fun and fast moving, but really boring, right quick.
Graphics and sounds are good. But the game did seem to use a lot of system resources, given how little is going on.
Groundskeeper2 has potential but needs some serious revamping to be a true hit. There just isn't enough to it, as it. But I love the classic feel and think future iterations have the potential to really go somewhere.
