Stock camera is better
Google Camera for Android seems like an older, outdated version of the stock camera app that I'm currently using on my Nexus 7 with Android 4.4. Honestly, I'm not sure why anyone would want to use this camera app when the stock cam is so much better. Perhaps some devices come with a really bad cam and this would be an improvement. And if that's the case, let me apologize to you on behalf of everyone who owes you an apology.
Google Camera app is ok, but I miss the interactive focus features of my stock app. The interface is clean and easy to decipher. There's really very little on the screen at any given time, so this would be good for people who want a very basic and easy to use camera app. The panorama feature is nice and worked quite well for me. Just follow the onscreen prompts to take individual pictures that are then stitched together by the app into a panoramic shot. Truthfully though, I think panorama pictures have long since been rendered obsolete. They were big back in the days when people were still getting prints of their photos at the drugstore. But in this modern tech era, it's kind of useless. Panoramic pics just print narrow on the page and display smaller on digital screens. It's much better to just stick with HD aspect ratio and crop into panorama if the need arises.
The app functions quickly, but is sorely lacking in advanced features. However, I will say the Lens Blur feature was nice. In the old days, we used to call this 'depth of field' and you'd adjust your f-stop and aperture settings to create the effect of depth. This app does all that nifty stuff for you by focusing on your subject and adding a slight blur to the background behind. This is a nice effect for portraits and head-shots because it places the focus on your subject. it also gives your pics a more professional look.
Overall, Google Camera is just ok. I think there are much better camera apps out there though. This one just doesn't do much to really be worthwhile. I uninstalled it and went back to stock.
