Lots of levels, exciting plot
Challenging controls, graphics could have been better, low quality animation
Tank Battles for Android takes your classic tank combat game and contemporizes it for today. The action is engaging and exciting but the animation is sluggish.
Tank Battles has a familiar look and style to it. You're in charge of a tank and placed inside a military compound maze. Enemy tanks are in the maze with you, and it's kill or be killed. Strategically drive through the maze, sneak up on your enemies and blast them before they blast you. The play is exciting and immersive. As the levels progress, the environment gets more challenging and there's more enemies to contend with. You can also purchase upgrades for your tank to make it more lethal.
The controls are good but glitchy at times. There's a joystick on the left, and to fire, just tap the screen wherever you want to shoot and the tank will move its turret and blast whatever you pointed at. The explosions are satisfying and add to the excitement.
The animation was decent with good details, but it did stutter often. The sounds were really good with satisfying explosions that added to the play and helped draw me in. The game features animated maps to depict what level you're on and give you something to look forward to as you see all the available levels to conquer. The app didn't seem to tax the battery that badly.
Tank Battles successfully takes a classic style game and breathes some new life into it. Some work needs to be done to improve the smoothness of play, but overall, it's quite good.
