Lots of settings, elaborated interface, stylish design
Lags a bit, kills your battery
Nike+ Running is a solid training app with a host of interesting features, all brought to you by the Just Do It people.
Nike+ Running takes the shoes most synonymous with exercise and activity and pairs them with a highly advanced training app. Select your course from a list of workouts, or just hit the streets and run free while the GPS tracks your location and distance run. The added Facebook integration means friends can help cheer you on while you workout, or you can use the recording of stock crowd cheers, though I think all that might be a tad embarrassing if overheard out in the streets. But I guess that’s what headphones are for.
The GPS functionality is predictably laggy and taxes the battery. But it’s an effective way to monitor your runs and keep a tally of your total miles within the app’s history. I liked the option to race against friends; just set a common distance and then see who completes it the fastest; even if you’re running in completely different cities or locations. There’s even officially sponsored training programs via the Nike+ Coach option.
The presentation is nice and easy to read, though a tad more difficult while bouncing during a run. Be sure to watch where you’re going more than you watch what’s happening on this app. I liked the color scheme and the menu layouts. There’s even a tab within the app to visit the Nike store and buy yourself the latest coolest pair of Nike shoes.
Nike+ Running is a well rounded training app. Yes, it’s also a commercial for their shoes, but its all put together nicely in a functional app. This should help keep you motivated and striving to reach your goals.
