Clumsy controls, stamina system limits how often you can play
Sports games have always needed to be pretty creative when it comes to mobile platforms. You just don’t have the same level of control and precision with controls on mobile devices that you do with a physical controller, but fortunately games like Head Ball 2 for Android puts that need to rest by creating an engaging game .
There are two parts to Head Ball that you’ll need to balance in order to succeed in the game. First up is the gameplay itself. There is a flat slab of a field with two players and two goals set on either side of the field. Each player is trying to knock the ball into the other player’s net while also defending from being scored on. You’ll do this by using on-screen buttons to move left, right, jump, shoot low and shoot high. Jumping and hitting the ball will also allow you to headbutt the ball. Obviously, you need to score to win.
The second part of the game involves leveling up power-ups you can use to get the competitive edge over your opponent. You also collect player cards that will increase your stat points. This is another way to get a leg up on your opponent. You collect these cards via player packs that you can unlock every 48 hours, purchase with in-game currency or purchase on your own.
Head Ball 2 is fun but it’s not without its faults. I found the controls to be pretty clumsy. Everything is placed in a line and until you really get used to it, you’ll find yourself sometimes hitting the wrong button. You’re also limited with stamina by how often you can play, which is always another downside.
