Review Can You Escape
Very basic elevator escape game
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 07 Jul 2014, tested on ASUS Nexus 7 (2013)
Can be played without in-app purchases, simple controls
Needs to be elaborated, very common, low quality graphics, low quality animation
Can You Escape for Android is very basic. The play is decent, but the presentation is very outdated.
Can You Escape is another Room Escape knock-off. You’re trapped in the foyer of a building, just outside an elevator. Search nearby objects to find clues, complete puzzles, open the elevator doors and escape the floor. The play is mediocre and very dry. This game is perfectly playable, however, the uninspired presentation assures it will remain utterly boring. Tap the screen to open drawers, find keys to open locks, look at pictures and books for clues; like the combination to the safe. It’s all here, it’s just a little like watching paint dry.
The controls are easy; just tap the screen to pick up objects and use them, or tap basically anything on screen to examine and figure out how to escape; if only there were a method for escaping the monotony.
The graphics are decent, but pedestrian; this looks more like a student project than a polished app. The sounds are minimalist to say the least, and the animation is basically nonexistent; just a series of still images displayed in sequence to give the appearance of movement.
Can You Escape barely has any intrigue. With all the elevator escape style games out there, I’m hard pressed to see how this one can compete for your interest. I think it might be ok for kids, given the rudimentary play, but that’s about it.
