Great art style, in-depth gameplay with lots to do
If you thought this was going to be a builder, you’re not alone. I went into Traffic Panic Boom Town for Android thinking I’d have a nice, relaxing time building up a city while watching the traffic pass. I guess that was my fault for not paying closer attention to the name! This is part city builder and part arcade. The only question is: How does it all mix together?
There are two parts to this game. You start off with a quaint intersection that has a few stores. The stores serve a few functions, such as how much money you can earn when guiding traffic, and can also earn currency passively by assigning them jobs to do. These jobs earn more money the more you level up your buildings with said currency.
On the other end, you have the traffic light game. In this, you’ll direct traffic at an intersection. One side always has the right of way, and you need to time when to let the other cars pass in between the traffic. If you’re too slow, you’ll get a traffic jam. If you’re careless, you’ll end up with a crash. There’s no repercussions for this, you’ll just only earn the money for the vehicles you passed by and will have to wait for the money in the intersection to build up, which accrues over time.
Traffic Panic Boom Town is a complex games that manages to meld two genres together pretty seamlessly. It forces you to wait a bit to play sometimes, but doesn’t do so in a totally arbitrary way. Overall, this is a really fun game that offers a lot while still being light and enjoyable to play.
