Review TENS!

Brandon Girod
Great, simple graphics, top notch animation, great sudoku-influenced gameplay
No unlockable rewards, slow difficulty curve
Do you consider yourself a puzzle game fanatic? If you do, or are just a fan of games in general, you’ll definitely want to check out a unique puzzle game called TENS! for Android. It’s addictive and based on Sudoku, but with a modern, mobile twist to it. The goal? Get as high a score as you can by dragging dice into rows and columns in a combination of 10 to score a point.
This game is just as addictive as it sounds and there are two ways you can play: survival and adventure. In adventure mode, you’ll play from level to level trying to earn the points required to beat the level. The trick is that in each level will be a random tile that changes the number of any dice placed on the tile. I found that placing dice on these tiles first made each level way easier to manage.
Survival mode is exactly what you would expect. It’s basically an open-ended way to play the game without any sort of limit. There are no random tiles, the only thing you need to do is focus on scoring as high as possible.
While playing through the game, I felt that the mechanics seemed a bit too easy. And, if I’m being honest, the game kind of is for a while. I had a few sketchy moments in the beginning, but once I found my footing, I just coasted along for a while, and I think that’s one weakness about the game. It doesn’t seem to throw enough at you to keep you constantly guessing. Not to mention, the slow climb to harder difficulties is really slow.
I had a blast playing TENS! and it’s definitely a game that I want to spend more time with. However, I wish the game would throw a little more at you to keep the game mechanics interesting in the long run.
