Over 50 unique cars to unlock, dynamic backgrounds
Controls sometimes don't feel responsive, takes a while to unlock new cars
If you like collecting things and enjoy playing runners, then you’ll have a blast playing Mini Car Club for Android. It’s an endless runner that features over 50 unique vehicles you can unlock and play as. The visuals are top notch and each car’s aesthetic looks and feels pretty fresh, but is the gameplay strong enough to keep you coming back for more?
As you might expect in an endless runner, you’ll be doing the same thing over and over again. This is a three-lane runner, so you’ll control your character by swiping left or right. Which direction you swipe will determine where your character moves, but this game has some environmental factors that also affect this, such as giant fans that will push your character from one side to the other.
Gameplay is actually deep for a runner. You have a 30 second time limit for each run that can be extended by reaching check points. Your car starts at a certain speed, but the speed degrades after time unless you tap and hold when your car runs over a green line to build more boost. You essentially always want to be building boost to ensure you never miss a checkpoint.
My biggest complaint with the game is, despite the gameplay mechanics, it’s still a runner at the end of the day. It takes a lot of coins to unlock new cars and I was already forcing myself to keep playing just to unlock a few. Mini Car Club has varied levels but I can’t help but feel it just needs something else to keep players invested in the game so they can see everything it has to offer.
