Retro graphics, great old school sound effects, very tight controls
Incredibly basic gameplay, limited long term value
When it comes to smashing cars, there’s no better expert than Box Cat! That’s right, folks. Box Cat is back for a sequel. Box Cat Bash for Android is the second game following the acclaimed 2011 game simply called Box Cat. Where’d the name come from? Well, because it’s a cat that’s shaped like a box. Simple stuff, really. But this game is anything but simple.
The original Box Cat had a pretty similar premise to the sequel. The entire game is based around smashing cars, but this time cars are falling right out of the sky. Why? We don’t have time to explain. Your job is just to make sure they don’t hit the ground. If they do, the entire world blows up. I don’t know if that’s entirely true but it’s the insinuation.
You’ll prevent the world from blowing up by moving Box Cat around with on-screen arrow buttons. You can also make Box Cat jump by pressing the jump button, though they call this a dash. There really isn’t any more to the game outside of hitting cars. They fall in random order and you just need to make sure you hit them. There are long-term objectives to aim for like hitting a certain number of dash smashes that will unlock different box cats.
Box Cat Bash probably isn’t a game you’re going to spend a lot of time with. It’s not a very deep game and it really only challenges your reflexes. This is the perfect game to play when you only have minutes to burn rather than hours. So as long as you go into this game with your expectations set, you’ll be fine.
