Review Oil Hunt 2 - Birthday Party
Help liven up Red's birthday party
Author: Brandon Girod
Date: 14 May 2017, tested on HTC One M8
Cute story line, difficult mechanics
Very repetitive gameplay, no rewards
Everyone has a birthday and today is Red. If you’re familiar with the Oil Hunt game series then you’ll probably want to make sure Red has the best birthday he can. Unfortunately for Red, no one has come to his birthday party, but he’s got a theory. He thinks that if he can get enough oil then he’ll attract friends to his birthday party. That’s where you come in. In Oil Hunt 2 - Birthday Party for Android, you’re going to go on a crusade for oil.
I’ve personally never been on a crusade for oil before, but this one didn’t go quite exactly as planned. Number one, it’s hard. Really hard. You see, Red is equipped with a telescopic straw that sucks oil out of the oil caverns in the ground and spits it out. He then has to run around and catch the falling oil, which you’ll help him do by guiding him around by pressing either side of the screen. Red has to do this throughout numerous levels.
There are three settings Red has to go to and plenty of levels for each. Every level has oil caverns of various depth and if you misjudge the length of the straw, you’ll have to start over again. I found the game to be pretty hard. It was probably the sixth level or so when I first struck the ground rather than oil, and the game never got any easier after that.
Oil Hunt 2 - Birthday Party doesn’t play that much differently from its predecessor, and that can be a good or bad thing, depending on how much you liked the first. If you weren’t a fan, this isn’t going to change your mind. If you’re a newcomer, give this one a shot. It’s fun, though it can sometimes be a bit frustrating.
