Very polished graphics, easy progression
Shallow gameplay, controls feel sluggish
If you’re a Downwell fan then you’ll probably feel mostly at home with Canyon Crash - Fall Down for Android. Both of these games consist of you falling and trying to make it to the end. Well, at least one of them. This game is more like an endless faller. There is no end, so just kick back and enjoy the ride because it’s going to be a long one (unless you’re not good at the game, like me).
Explaining Canyon Crash couldn’t be simpler because the gameplay is pretty one-note. Your character is falling down a canyon and, for some reason, there is a laser beam chasing after him (or her). Tapping the right and left sides of the screen will let you guide the your character down the canyons as they fall. You’ll mostly use these to dodge obstacles and collect coins.
If your character is falling fast enough then when they hit an obstacle, they’ll try and dig right through it. If the character is falling slow then they’ll land on top and you’ll need to guide them off. In the beginning of the run the laser is pretty forgiving, but as you fall, the laser will come at you faster and faster, leaving little time to correct yourself.
Given how quickly you have to dodge obstacles, the game has a pretty quick skill ceiling and, in my opinion, this is really what sort of kills the game. The only incentive to continue playing is the new skills, but they aren’t exactly works of art.
