Great art design, incredibly fun gameplay mechanics, plenty of character classes
Tutorial is a bit too intrusive
It’s always refreshing to see new developers try out new mechanics in their games and that goes double when it’s on mobile platforms as we often see the same game rehashed multiple times. Push Heroes for Android, while not totally unique, is a breath of fresh air as it borrows some cues from popular games but melds them together in a pretty unique combination.
So, as the name implies, this is a turn-based game that requires you to push your character around a board that is arranged in a grid. You’ll start in the middle of the grid and various enemies will spawn in the grid in different locations in waves. Subsequently, moving your character around the grid will also push enemies if they’re occupying the same row or column as your character.
The entire strategy around this game is maneuvering your character around the board in a position to attack as many enemies as possible. You have a set amount of moves you can make before you have to yield the turn to the enemies, so you need to make the most of them. You can pick one of five characters and each attacks differently and has different skills you can unlock. The goal of each level is to kill all the enemies before they kill you.
Overall, the game is really great. I love the art direction the game has and the gameplay mechanics are fundamentally strong without being too cumbersome or too much like anything else I’ve really seen out there. So if you’re looking for something new to sink your teeth into, give Push Heroes a shot.
