Review Midnight Hunter

Stable progression
Aging gameplay mechanics, sub par graphics, controls are a little clumsy
Side scrolling shooters are definitely no stranger to the mobile gaming platform. One of the first games I ever played on an iPhone was a side scrolling zombie shooter that wasn’t too unlike Midnight Hunter for Android. In this game, you’ll pretty much run through bullet hell as you try to avoid attacks and obstacles while picking up coins and just plain surviving.
Some mobile games pretty much live or die by how well they manage to implement their control schemes. This is a game of two tales. On one hand, the game is designed so you don’t have to worry about aiming. Instead, once you navigate your hero within a certain radius of enemies, he will automatically begin firing at the nearest enemy. This can be good or bad, depending on the situation. It’s good because aiming in a game like this would be difficult, but bad because you can’t manually prioritize your targets. That means death is bound to happen.
To further complicate the controls, how responsive they are can be really hit or miss. Sometimes I’ll swipe left and my character will jump over spikes, other times he’ll just walk right into them. Another instance where the controls can sometimes lead to death.
The gameplay is rather fun, however. Money is fairly easy to come by in the beginning and you’ll use that money to level up your weapons. You start with a pistol, so it’s kind of your priority to level that up first. But you get temporary weapons throughout the game, so it’s important to level those as well.
Midnight Hunter is a fun game but the controls really hold it back. The game feels a bit dated, too. The art style isn’t great and I wish there was a bit more depth outside of simply surviving for as long as possible.
